Tutoring

"Megan the tutor . . .first person in 19 years to not only NOT diminish my daughter's belief in herself, but to build up her belief in herself so much that I now have an heir to whom I can pass down my law firm.  Six months ago, unheard of! "

—Maureen Williams, parent of student Natalie Williams

The tutoring services that I provide are based on the science of the Orton Gillingham method, as well as the experience of teaching for seventeen years.  I have been trained in the Barton Reading and Spelling Program, and have used this program to teach all eight of my dyslexic children, as well as other students.  To be effective, the teaching method must be multi sensory, systematic and cumulative.  The teaching must be direct and explicit, and incorporate significant practice. Each of these components are essential to the success of the instruction, and are integral to my tutoring.

The rates that I require are based upon not only the science of dyslexia instruction, but also the art of dyslexia instruction.  For seventeen years I have been doing nothing else but teaching dyslexic students.  This period of time covers pre-diagnosis, diagnosis, and post-diagnoses.  I have ridden the highs with these kids, and I have struggled shoulder-to-shoulder with them through the lows.  And there were plenty.  But now my children know who they are and what they need. My eldest with dyslexia is a sophomore studying Architecture at the University of Notre Dame.  She scored a 34 on the ACT, and achieved a 3.7 grade point average at Notre Dame last semester. She has a strong sense of who she is, what she needs, and where she is going.  Help me unlock the dyslexia in your child; we will make a great team!
